My number one superpower is curiosity. It has driven me to broaden my experience, knowledge, and skills so much that my friends jokingly call me Rickypedia. It has taken me all over the world (both real and figurative), exploring every interesting aspect I can absorb and use to create new things.
I believe that if you’re going to do something, you need to understand its impact on people. To do that, you have to learn to understand others deeply. Ethnography and a human-centered approach are central to my process.
practical
Don’t think, make! Tackling challenges through hands-on making will uncover solutions you’d never find otherwise, not even with ChatGPT. I love literally rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty on a project. I’ve picked up skills in prototyping, electronics, manufacturing, construction, and more by diving in and doing things practically.
iconoclastic
The best treasure is buried where the edges come together. To find it, you need to get really comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’ve trained myself to get excited when things get weird. Continuously asking why has led me to some strange and very rewarding places.
INVENTIVE
I was the kid who didn’t just play with his toys. I took them apart to figure out how they worked and tried to improve them. I’m highly motivated by discovering new ways of doing things and solving problems.
adaptable
I’ve packed up my whole life and moved to a completely different continent 3 times now. This is easy because I know that what ever problem comes up, I can figure it out. Throw me in a novel situation and I get excited for the challenge. As a lightning fast learner, I’m quick to be the one others turn to for direction.
Projects
"That sounds weird, let's do it!" - It's been a guideline for the types of projects I take on, which makes my brain interesting but leads to a portfolio that seems strange.
