We started with an experiment to develop a game at the intersection of physical and digital technology.
Once we had a proof of concept we got approval to turn it into an 8’ x 8’ installation. The digital platform game was projected onto a panel with only the game character visible in digital format. The rest of the game was physically rendered with various servo-controlled moving platforms. Every time a change occurred to the digital elements in the game, a signal was sent to an Arduino board that triggered a servo to move the corresponding physical element.
Combining electronics, motors, pumps, and 3d prints the game had platforms that pivoted, slid, and rotated, as well as water traps and lights that represented the tokens to collect.
The game was winter-themed because we launched it at our holiday party.
